A new discount grocery store has opened one day after another closed in Brampton.

Food Basics opened its newest location in Brampton on Thursday at 400 Queen Street West.

It comes after a Food Basics shut down on Wednesday at 1 Bartley Bull Parkway, the company said.

The new store is around 5 km away from the previous one, or an approximate 10-minute drive.

It is more than 32,000 square feet and employs 90 people. Food Basics said that the entire team from the previous store moved to the one on Queen Street, joined by 40 new employees.

“We are excited to be able to bring a fresher and newer Food Basics to Brampton community, offering a more enjoyable shopping experience for residents to save on quality products,” said John Manax, the vice president of operations at Food Basics.

Food Basics said the store is the second of eight to open in 2026.

It is open daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
