Ontario Provincial Police are warning about the dangers of spring ice conditions after two snowmobilers fell through the ice in the Georgian Bay Friday night.
Officers responded shortly before 10 p.m. near Robin’s Point Road in township of Tay, Ont. for reports of a snowmobile that had gone through the ice.
Two individuals had been riding separate snowmobiles when one of the machines “broke through thinning ice,” said the OPP.
Both riders fell into the water, but were wearing survival flotation suits, said police.
Tay Township Fire crews were able to rescue both individuals, who were taken to hospital by paramedics as a precaution for cold exposure. The second snowmobile was safely brought back to shore.

The OPP reminds residents and visitors in the area to be wary of unpredictable and unsafe ice conditions, especially as temperatures increase.
“Areas that may appear solid, can quickly deteriorate,” said police.
They strongly advised people to stay off the ice entirely.
