A Mississauga resident faces impaired driving and dangerous operation charges after a pedestrian was struck by an SUV in the small southwestern Ontario town of Delhi on Monday morning.
Ontario Provincial Police said the person who was struck on Church Street East didn’t report any injuries in the wake of the incident, which occurred shortly before 8:30 a.m. in the town located southwest of Brantford.
According to police, the SUV was travelling on Church Street East when it left the road and struck the pedestrian. The driver then fled the scene in the vehicle, police added.
Officers later located the SUV on Windham Road 12, just outside of Delhi. The driver was subsequently taken into custody without incident, police said.
A 39-year-old resident of Mississauga is charged with:
Operation while impaired — alcohol and drugs.
Operation while impaired — blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).
Failure to stop after accident.
Dangerous operation.
Drive — handheld communication device.
The accused, whose gender was not revealed by police, is scheduled to appear in Ontario Court in Simcoe on May 12.
