An inaugural Moving Forward Together Gala aims to make mental health services more accessible in Surrey.
The event on Friday, April 10 is planned as a first-annual fundraiser for Moving Forward Family Services counselling programs, which provide low-cost and accessible mental health support to individuals, couples and families across B.C.
The organization works to ensure that financial barriers do not prevent people from receiving care.
“Come out and support a made-in-Canada solution to address the mental health and wellbeing needs of Canadian residents,” says a post on eventbrite.ca, where tickets are $135 for a night at Crown Palace Banquet Hall, on Nordel Way in Surrey, 6 p.m. start.
Based in Surrey, Moving Forward is among the largest nonprofit counselling services in the country.
“Our team of 200 student counsellors and social workers, along with over 300 registered therapists, offers sliding scale services in over 30 languages, united by a desire to address the massive gaps in mental health care in B.C.,” explained Gary Thandi, executive director.
The organization recently co-hosted a Coldest Night of the Year fundraising walk at Newton Athletic Park and surrounding streets, and is now focused on the April 10 gala.
Guests can expect “an inspiring evening focused on community impact, connection, and support for mental wellness initiatives. Funds raised during the event will directly support counselling programs and outreach efforts that help expand access to mental health care.”
