The Maple Leafs have a few lines in the water still, and have been linked to the top remaining UFA, but as one reporter explains, there’s a few hurdles in the way.
The Toronto Maple Leafs accomplished what they set out to do this summer by changing the DNA following the departure of Mitch Marner and the additions of several players who are a lot tougher to play against, such as former Vegas Golden Knights centre Nicolas Roy and ex-Vancouver Canucks forward Dakota Joshua, just to name a few.
Still, with the Leafs having made several additions this summer, it hasn’t necessarily softened their link to the top remaining UFA, Jack Roslovic.
“It’s just weird to discuss a fit right now when they have like 15 [NHL] forwards on their roster. What’s the exodus look like if you bring in a Jack Roslovic? You’re definitely not trading of a position of strength when everyone knows that you have to flee bodies, and that’s I think the game right now when it comes to Brad Treliving. It’s like, you want to bring in Roslovic, but you bring him in and you have like 4 guys that you’ve gotta jettison out and how do you make a trade when every GM knows that?”
Roslovic is reportedly looking for a multi-year deal in the neighborhood of $3M per season, and while the Leafs can certainly accommodate a deal like they, they can’t do it until they move someone else out.
