An unidentifed person appears to point a weapon.
A fight at a Mississauga high school that escalated to police answering a gun call is receiving widespread attention because it was filmed and shared on social media.
The incident, which purportedly took place and filmed on Monday, initially shows two male youths fighting in the school’s hallway. Later, the video switches to outside the school, where it appears that one of the fighters pulls a gun, points it, and then chases his foe.
There have been no reports of injuries.
Reports later indicated the weapon was a BB gun and that police say they are investigating the incident.
The video is not being shared here because those involved may be underage, which means their identities cannot be revealed.
Police have said that the school is Ascension of Our Lord Secondary School in Malton.
The video of the incident appeared online yesterday and was quickly shared on various platforms, mostly on X.
Online commenters point out that the fight portion of the video is particularly vicious, as one of the combatants lands a continuous barrage of punches on the head of his opponent.
Later, as it switches outside, a person involved in the filming can be heard describing events as they unfold.
“(He) has a gun,” a female voice can be heard as the video shows a person pulling out a gun from his waistband and pointing it at his adversary, who begins to run away.
Other online comments called out the students for their actions.
“Shame on these students for their behaviour. They absolutely deserve the expulsion coming their way. I don’t see what the principal has to be accountable for. The parents of these youths, on the other hand, they absolutely do need to be accountable for their children’s actions,” said one of the commenters.
No charges have yet been filed by police.
