April has arrived, and so too has April Fools’ Day.
TSN CFL analyst Glen Suitor knows that locker-room pranks can bring a team together, like when he removed the fives from a deck of cards that legends Roger Aldag and Bob Poley were using to play crib on a return flight from Toronto to Regina.
“I thought about an hour in, they would figure it out. We’re two hours in, and I’m going, you’re kidding me. Are you just setting me up here? I didn’t say anything, and I had them in my shirt pocket. I kept hearing Poley, especially, saying,” I can’t get a hand. I just cannot get a hand today.”
“So I get up, and I’m standing in the aisle, and I show them the four fives, and I go, ‘ Did you guys need these? I waited until I was right by the door, and then I just took off, and they were mad at me.”
Suitor added that the Riders’ legends did exact some revenge.
“Well, Grey Cup ’89, I got taped to the goalpost. It was right around my birthday. It was because of that Poley and Aldag were the leaders of the tape me to the goalpost thing in the Grey Cup in ’89. And it was because of that crib game back in Toronto.”
