Make that three in a row for Joselyne Edwards.
On Saturday night at the UFC APEX, UFC Vegas 109 went down, with Edwards taking on Priscila Cachoeira in a preliminary women’s bantamweight bout. Ranked No. 14 in the division by the UFC, Edwards had a lot at stake, but “La Pantera” came through with flying colors, flooring Cachoeira just 2:24 seconds into the first round.
The bout was shaping up to be a back-and-forth affair, with Cachoeira pressing forward and trying to turn the fight into a brawl. That ended up backfiring though, as Edwards caught Cachoeira with a counter right hand that sent the Brazilian fighter to her back. A nasty follow-up shot from Edwards then sealed the deal, turning Cachoeira’s lights out and giving Edwards her third consecutive stoppage win.
After her big win, Edwards called for a chance to move up the rankings.
“Irene Aldana, I’m not sure when you’re coming back but I’m right here waiting for you,” Edwards said. “Mayra Bueno Silva, whenever you’re ready, I’m here.”
