Both the Ontario Provincial Police and the Ottawa Provincial Police have announced sexual-offence charges against a 23-year-old man.

The Upper Ottawa Valley detachment of the OPP said on April 2 that officers had received information a child may have been lured for sexual purposes on March 21.

A news release said that Omer Yildirim, 23, had been charged with two counts of sexual assault causing bodily harm, luring a person under 16 years of age by means of telecommunication, three counts of invitation to sexual touching under 16, two counts of sexual interference, possession of child abuse and exploitation material and making sexually explicit material available to a person.

The man remained in custody as of Thursday, police added.

Ottawa police said Yildirim had been charged for incidents in the city in January 2026. There were 13 charges announced, including, but not limited to sexual assault under 16 years, sexual interference under 16 years, invitation to sexual touching under 16 years, sexual assault with choking, administering a noxious substance, luring a person under 14 by means of telecommunication, abduction of a person under 14 years and unlawfully possessing child sexual abuse material.

Again, he was scheduled to appear in court at a future date, police said.

Investigators believe there may be other victims associated with the case Ottawa police said, adding that Yildirim communicated over social media using Snapchat and a username associated with his Snapchat was “ottawamoe.”
