Break-and-enters remain a persistent issue in Mississauga and Brampton, with over 500 incidents reported to police since the start of 2026.
According to Peel Regional Police data, the break-ins took place from Jan. 1 to April 4.
Both cities saw their fair share of crimes related to break-ins, with 339 of the incidents happening in Mississauga and the other 191 in Brampton.

The data further indicates that the following places were targeted:
231 houses, 24 apartments, 10 residential garages or sheds, 19 restaurants, one factory, two pharmacy, eight schools, 45 stores, six construction sites, and 13 offices. 28 incidents were listed as “other,” and 143 involved “unidentified” businesses.

As of Saturday, with investigations into the majority of these cases, 357 remain ongoing, 99 are considered solved and 74 are deemed unsolved.

Residents are advised to maintain a safe home and prevent break-ins by following these tips provided by police:
Keep shrubs and hedges around your property maintained to allow for clear lines of sight to all
accessible windows and doors.
Ensure garage and screen doors are locked, even while at home.
Get to know your neighbours and look out for each other’s properties.
Consider installing a second locking device for windows and any sliding doors.
