Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman reached 10 years of Major League service time on Friday.

It’s a significant milestone for the three-time All-Star, who made his debut in 2015 with the Seattle Mariners. Marte’s name appeared in trade rumors throughout the offseason, but he now controls the fate of his future in Arizona.

Under the current collective bargaining agreement, players who reach 10 years of MLB service time receive full no-trade protection. The D-Backs cannot trade the two-time Silver Slugger without his consent.

“General manager Mike Hazen has said a few times that talks never got especially close to a deal,” Anthony Franco of MLB Trade Rumors wrote Friday. “He maintained throughout the winter that the front office didn’t want to move Marte but needed to consider all ways to improve their starting pitching.”

Marte’s current contract runs through the 2030 season, with a player option for 2031. Before Saturday’s game against the Atlanta Braves, he owns a .167/.265/.267 slash line with a .531 OPS through eight games — a slow start for a hitter of his caliber.
