Although the Boston Celtics are busy preparing for the final stretch of the regular season and the beginning of the postseason, they found time to complete a deal for a notable wing contributor.
On Saturday, the organization signed the son of a former Los Angeles Lakers guard and five-time NBA champion to assist Jaylen Brown.
“The Boston Celtics are signing two-way wing Ron Harper Jr. to a new two-year deal,” ESPN’s Shams Charania reported on X/Twitter. “Harper has played a key Celtics rotation role at times this season while spending time starring for their Maine G League affiliate.”
Harper, who enjoyed a productive collegiate career with Rutgers, started his professional career with the Toronto Raptors. The 25-year-old spent the majority of his tenure with the 2019 NBA champions in the G-League, only appearing in 10 contests with the big dogs.
Harper joined the Detroit Pistons for the 2024-25 season, but again, didn’t receive much action in the big leagues. Harper, a pure 6-foot-5 scorer, has received a legitimate opportunity to showcase his skills with the Celtics this season.
The Patterson, New Jersey native is averaging 3.4 points per game this season, shooting 39.8% from the field and 34.4% from beyond the arc in 26 games with the Celtics.
Although Harper’s NBA career has gotten off to a slow start, it’s clear that Boston values him enough to keep him around for the foreseeable future.
