Across Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Hamilton, Halton, Durham and Niagara, closures and reduced hours are expected as Easter Sunday (April 5, 2026) approaches.

Easter Sunday—also known as Pascha or Resurrection Sunday is one of the most important days in the Christian calendar, marking the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

While some businesses will remain open—especially in tourist-heavy areas—many services, stores and government offices across southern Ontario will be closed or operating on holiday schedules.

Here’s what to expect on Easter Sunday across the region:

Mississauga

Most major shopping centres—including Square One, Erin Mills Town Centre and Dixie Outlet Mall—will be closed on Easter Sunday.

Large grocery stores such as Costco will also be closed, along with government offices, banks, libraries, Canada Post and all LCBO and Beer Store locations.

Transit (MiWay) will run on a Sunday/holiday schedule.

Some restaurants, cafes, pharmacies and smaller grocery stores may remain open, along with parks and trails.

Toronto

Many major malls—including Yorkdale, Sherway Gardens and Dufferin Mall—will be closed on Easter Sunday.

Most grocery stores, government offices, libraries, banks, LCBO and Beer Store locations will also be closed.

The TTC will operate on a holiday schedule.

However, some attractions—including the Eaton Centre, CN Tower, Ripley’s Aquarium and select grocery stores—are expected to remain open, along with restaurants and pharmacies.

Brampton

Major retail locations like Bramalea City Centre and Shoppers World will be closed.

Most grocery stores, government services, libraries and banks will not operate, and LCBO and Beer Store locations will be shut.

Brampton Transit will run on a Sunday/holiday schedule.

Select restaurants, pharmacies and smaller grocery stores may be open, along with parks and trails.

Halton Region (Oakville, Burlington, Milton, Halton Hills)

Major malls—including Mapleview Centre, Burlington Centre and Oakville Place—will be closed.

Most grocery stores, LCBO and Beer Store locations, libraries and government services will not operate.

Transit services vary by municipality but generally follow holiday schedules.

Outdoor attractions like Conservation Halton parks and some restaurants and pharmacies are expected to remain open.

Hamilton

CF Lime Ridge and most major retail stores will be closed on Easter Sunday, along with grocery stores, government offices, libraries and Canada Post.

LCBO and Beer Store locations will also be closed.

HSR transit will operate on a Sunday schedule.

Some entertainment venues, restaurants, pharmacies and convenience stores will remain open.

Durham Region (Oshawa, Whitby, Ajax, Pickering, Clarington)

Major malls like Oshawa Centre and Pickering Town Centre will be closed.

Most grocery stores, banks, libraries and government offices will not operate.

LCBO and Beer Store locations will be closed.

Transit will run on a holiday schedule, while some restaurants, pharmacies and convenience stores may remain open.

Niagara Region

While tourist areas like Niagara Falls and Niagara-on-the-Lake will see many attractions and restaurants open, most malls, grocery stores, government offices and libraries will be closed.

LCBO, Beer Store locations and Canada Post will also be shut.

Tourist attractions—including Clifton Hill experiences—are expected to remain open, drawing visitors despite the holiday.

The bottom line

Easter Sunday will bring widespread closures across southern Ontario, particularly for retail, government services and liquor sales.

That said, restaurants, tourist attractions and smaller businesses are expected to stay open in many areas—but it’s always best to call ahead before heading out.
