The Ottawa 67’s are headed to the second round of the OHL playoffs after finishing off a four-game sweep of the Kingston Frontenacs.
Filip Ekberg scored the game-winning goal with less than a minute left in regulation time Thursday night, securing the 67’s 3-2 victory over the Frontenacs at Slush Puppie Place in Kingston.
The 67’s staked themselves to a 2-0 lead just minutes into the first period on goals from Sam McCue and Nic Sima.
But the Frontenacs were able to claw their way back, with Matthew Frost finding the back of the net halfway through the first and Robin Kuzma scoring the equalizer early in the second.
The 67’s will face either the Barrie Colts or the Niagara IceDogs in the next round.
Barrie currently leads that series 3-1.
