LETTER: White Rock anti-racism forum – dialogue or doctrine?

In response to the article “Anti-racism forum inspires dialogue” (March 26)
A recent anti-racism forum in White Rock, facilitated by MOSAIC, warrants a closer look from our community. While framed as a gathering for “dialogue,” those familiar with modern political activism will recognise it as an exercise in praxis – the application of a radical theory to shift social dynamics.
Having spent years within the progressive left, I see the playbook being used. It relies on a specific lexicon that redefine words like “inclusion ” and “justice” to fit a framework of Critical Theory. In this worldview, “anti-racism” does not mean not being racist, and to treat your neighbours with dignity and respect; it is a system of standpoint epistemology that categorizes individuals into power dynamics based on immutable traits. By adopting this language, the City is endorsing a state-sanctioned sociology that many residents do not share.
We must ask: Where is the evidence, and what is the cost?
The forum was ostensibly a response to “racist attitudes” observed during a local byelection, yet documented incidents remain absent from public reports. In a free society, we address actual harms through law and factual evidence. We do not use taxpayer-funded grants to hire outside consultants to “unpack” the supposed moral failings of an entire community based on vague trends.
True community belonging is built through the freedom of individuals to interact with the marketplace and social life. We do not need expensive, ideological re-education forums to know how to be good neighbours, and we certainly shouldn’t be footing the bill for a narrative that seeks to redefine our community from the outside.
