We witnessed a rather unexpected scene last night on the Montreal Canadiens’ bench involving forward Cole Caufield.

Before getting into the details, it makes absolutely no sense to see some people criticizing Caufield for this.

We’re 100% behind Caufield on this one!

The atmosphere was expected to be absolutely electric last night at the Bell Centre for the visit of the New Jersey Devils, but the evening took an unexpected and somewhat frustrating turn.

Cole Caufield reacts on Canadiens bench as Bell Centre pressure peaks amid 50-goal chase

After the Montreal Canadiens secured a playoff spot earlier in the day thanks to a Red Wings loss, all eyes were on one man: Cole Caufield.

It’s worth recalling that Caufield is now just one goal away from reaching the 50-goal mark, a milestone not achieved by a Canadiens player since Stéphane Richer.

The hype was so intense that the cheapest resale tickets were going for no less than $600.

The crowd was even chanting his name during his very first shift on the ice.

However, the immense pressure on number 13’s shoulders eventually started to show. And honestly, we completely understand it!

In a video shared by the PuckEmpire account on X, Caufield can be seen visibly frustrated on the bench, shouting a loud “SHUT UP!”… while looking toward the stands.

According to many, this outburst was indeed directed at fans in the stands who kept yelling at him to shoot the puck every time he touched it.

Canadiens shut out by Devils as Caufield faces mounting pressure ahead of Panthers matchup

It must be said that nothing was working for the Canadiens in this second game in as many nights against New Jersey.

The team saw its impressive eight-game winning streak come to an abrupt end, suffering a 3–0 shutout at the hands of goaltender Jacob Markstrom.

The home team managed just 18 shots on goal.

It’s easy to understand how frustration may have boiled over for Caufield.

Being the absolute focal point of over 21,000 “armchair coaches” is no easy task when trying to stay focused and play the right way.

Fortunately, Caufield still has five games left to etch his name into the franchise record book.

His next opportunity will come as early as Tuesday night, when the Florida Panthers—currently dealing with significant injuries—visit Montreal.
