The God of War remakes might be bringing back something fans haven’t seen in over a decade.

For the uninitiated: the original Greek trilogy was not shy. Across God of War, God of War 2, God of War 3, and both PSP entries, Kratos could duck away with one or several women for a brief, camera-panning minigame that rewarded players with Red Orbs.

The camera always cut away tastefully enough, but the intent was never in question. They were loud, they were silly, and they were very much of their era. When the Norse saga arrived in 2018, they vanished without ceremony. Director Cory Barlog said Kratos had simply grown up, and so the games that followed, including Ragnarok in 2022, kept that same restraint.

God of War remake could bring back Kratos’ most notorious scenes

At a Megacon Orlando panel on late March, IGN put the question directly to T.C. Carson, the original voice of Kratos who is reprising the role for the remakes. Would the minigames return? “You know what, all you dudes, all you men… I think so,” Carson said.

When the interviewer called it breaking news, Carson immediately pulled back, clarifying he had said “I think so” rather than anything definitive.

Whether or not they survive the remake process, the scenes have found unexpected defenders. Former Santa Monica writer Alanah Pearce argued that they should stay and noted the original minigames were largely developed by women on the team who took pride in the work. The Aphrodite’s Chamber sequence in God of War 3, she said, was designed specifically by women to be evocative of female anatomy.

It has been a busy year for the franchise. In February, Christopher Judge confirmed to a fan at Canada’s Fan Expo that he would not return for the remakes. Judge also hinted that Santa Monica would have news about their next project by late summer.
