Sections of several roads near Mississauga Hospital have been shut down to traffic after a gas line was struck early Monday afternoon, police say.
Peel Regional Police said the gas line was struck at The Queensway West and Confederation Parkway and immediately began leaking, prompting a “dangerous condition” response from emergency crews shortly after 12:30 p.m.
Reports indicate some buildings in the area have been evacuated.
In addition to police, Mississauga firefighters and gas workers are also on the scene, which is just steps away from Mississauga Hospital and the busy intersection of Hurontario Street and The Queensway.
Police and other officials continue to investigate and motorists and others are urged to avoid the area. Police didn’t say what struck the gas line.
The Queensway West is closed between Hurontario Street and Gordon Drive while Confederation Parkway is shut down to vehicles between The Queensway West and Paisley Boulevard, police said.
Queensway has re-opened to traffic.
