Brampton’s Holi Gala is returning for another year with a goal of raising $1 million for health care in Brampton and Etobicoke, including the Peel Memorial Centre upgrade project.

The 13th-annual Holi Gala is this weekend in Brampton, bringing the community together for the William Osler Health System Foundation’s signature spring event featuring food and live entertainment.

And while the ticketed event has already sold out, there’s also an online silent auction to raise funds for Osler health care projects, with packages including a Niagara Falls family adventure package, a dinner and art experience at the Art Gallery of Ontario, an introductory pilot lesson, jewellery, shopping excursions and much more.

The auction ends on Saturday, and Osler has set a $1 million target for this year’s event, with funds going towards turning the Peel Memorial Centre into Brampton’s second hospital.

The Holi Gala has helped raise millions in support of William Osler Health System, including over $1.2 million last year. The funds have helped fund “lifesaving equipment and transformative hospital projects across our communities.”

The Ontario government has committed nearly $46.8 million in capital planning funding to build the new hospital.

First opened over 100 years ago, the first Peel Memorial Centre had just 12 beds and a nursery in the estate home of William Elliot – a farmer and politician who represented Peel in the House of Commons from 1878 to 1882.

The new hospital will also include a new multi-storey patient tower with up to 250 inpatient beds and the ability to scale up in the future, a new “state-of-the-art” ED, and an expanded post-acute care services that will help free up beds at Brampton Civic Hospital, the province says.
