A fire in Winnipeg’s North End consumed a 1½-storey house early Wednesday, leaving nothing but some partial walls.
Crews were sent to the house on the 300 block of Salter Street, near St. John’s Avenue, at 5:40 a.m.
Firefighters tried to extinguish the blaze from outside because it was unsafe to enter the house, and later ordered an emergency demolition, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service said in a news release.
No one was injured. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
A neighbouring house appeared to be vacant and boarded up from a different fire, with scorch marks around the space where the upper window would have been.
Salter was closed between Mountain and Anderson avenues. Police and cadets were on scene to redirect traffic.
