PHOTOS: Car loses control, crashes into hydro pole near Hamilton

A Mississauga woman found out the hard way last weekend just how easy it can be to lose control of a car while driving on wet pavement, police say.

Fortunately, according to Ontario Provincial Police, the 20-year-old woman who was behind the wheel wasn’t injured after the vehicle she was driving crashed into a hydro pole on a rural road northwest of Hamilton on Saturday morning.

OPP said the car was travelling on Highway 5 at Rock Chapel Road shortly before 11 a.m. when it struck the pole.

Police said the driver, who’s from Mississauga, “drove off the road in wet conditions during a left turn and rode up the guy wire that supports the hydro pole.”

The woman, who was the lone occupant of the vehicle, wasn’t injured, police said, adding the car sustained minor damage.

Police, firefighters and paramedics responded in short order to the scene.

The vehicle, which had come to a stop in a near-vertical position with its rear tires on the ground and front end up the guy wire of the hydro pole (see additional photos below), was removed a short time later by a tow truck, OPP said.

The local utility company was also on scene to inspect the hydro pole.

Police said no charges were laid, but cautioned all motorists to “remember to adjust your driving when facing wet and slippery road conditions.”
