Mississauga, Ont. is looking at a new residential lawn upkeep bylaw following a recent Ontario Superior Court of Justice ruling that sided with a homeowner whose naturalized yard was said to violate the city’s existing bylaw.
The proposed “Turfgrass and Prohibited Plant Species Bylaw” aims to focus on health and safety instead of a broader tidiness edict, reports Mississauga.com.
The court had ruled a resident’s naturalized lawn was a form of self-expression.
If the newly proposed bylaw is approved by the city, the bylaw would go into effect immediately.
