A small fire “caused by a worker’s welding tool” under the stal’ew’asem Bridge temporarily closed southbound lanes on the bridge and closed Royal Ave and McBride Boulevard in New Westminster Friday (April. 10), Surrey Police said.

The left lane travelling southbound is now open, according to Drive BC.

New Westminster Police stated in a social media post that the “fire is out and the bridge is open sooner than anticipated,” but warned to expect delays.

Surrey Police, New Westminster Police and Surrey Fire attended the scene. There were no reported injuries.
