Ten-time WNBA All-Star Brittney Griner is finalizing a seven-figure deal with the Connecticut Sun, a team source confirmed to The Athletic.
Griner, who played for the Atlanta Dream during the 2025 season, is set to play for just her third team in 13 WNBA seasons. Griner played only one season with the Dream, averaging career lows in points (9.8) and rebounds (5.2). Griner played at Baylor and was born and raised in Houston, where the Sun will relocate in the 2027 season.
Sun sideline reporter Terrika Foster-Brasby first reported the deal.
The 6-foot-9 center joins a Sun team that is building around a young core, including Leila Lacan, Saniya Rivers and Aneesah Morrow. Lacan averaged 10.4 points and 3.7 assists a game last season, Rivers averaged 8.8 points in 42 games, and Morrow grabbed 6.9 rebounds per contest in the 2025 season. With the recent additions of wing Diamond Miller in exchange for Rayah Marshall, and forward Aaliyah Edwards, the former UConn standout, Griner brings length and size inside to complement the roster.
Griner, the No. 1 pick in the 2013 WNBA Draft, is also a six-time All-WNBA selection, two-time Defensive Player of the Year and eight-time WNBA blocks leader.
Griner’s best seasons came with the Phoenix Mercury, with whom she won a WNBA title in 2014, and is a three-time gold medalist with USA Basketball. She missed the 2022 WNBA season after being wrongfully detained in Russia.
