There’s an update regarding the Montreal Canadiens’ third goal tonight against the New York Islanders.

The NHL has made a very interesting change to the official scoresheet.

It directly involves defenseman David Reinbacher.

The young player is playing his very first NHL game tonight, and on the Canadiens’ third goal—scored by forward Alex Newhook—an assist had initially been awarded to Arber Xhekaj.

“David Reinbacher should get his first point in the NHL on Alex Newhook’s 3-0 goal.

Currently lists Arber Xhekaj, but he was the fourth man on the play.”

– Marco D’Amico

D’Amico was ultimately right!

Arber Xhekaj loses a point on his stat line, as the league quickly corrected things a few minutes later to confirm the first career point for David Reinbacher.

“This is now confirmed, an assist was added to Reinbacher on the goal.”

– Marco D’Amico

So initially, no assist had been awarded on the goal. Then, the NHL gave one to Arber Xhekaj, before ultimately correcting it a second time.

This officially marks David Reinbacher’s first point in a Montreal Canadiens uniform!

It’s a pretty magical moment for the defenseman.

Getting a point in his first game certainly takes a lot of pressure off.

Martin St-Louis must be very pleased with what he’s seen from his player so far.

Making an impact this quickly in an important matchup requires a lot of character, so credit to David Reinbacher!

Fans have been eagerly waiting for this moment since David Reinbacher was selected in the draft.

Seeing him contribute is great to watch!

The Canadiens ultimately sealed a 4–1 victory, officially eliminating the Islanders from playoff contention in the process.

It’s excellent news for the team, which needed something positive after yesterday’s tough loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets.
