Opening weekend is just around the bend for Cloverdale’s heritage railway.

The Fraser Valley Heritage Railway Society (FVHRS) is gearing up for their 2026 summer season, which opens the weekend of May 2-3.

Once again the society will be offering its “Heritage Railway Adventure” on Saturdays and its “Sullivan Excursion” experience on Sundays.

The Heritage Railway Adventure is FVHRS’s on site, “ride everything experience”, said Allen Aubert, FVHRS secretary, along with a tour of their Discovery Centre.

The Sullivan Excursion is their 55-minute trip on the restored BCER interurban car that travels up the mainline to Sullivan Station (in Sullivan Park).

“This season we are celebrating our 25th anniversary as a heritage railway society,” added Aubert. He noted several events are planned for their celebratory summer season.

On the Sunday of opening weekend (May 3), the Surrey Firefighters Pipes and Drums Band will play on the platform at Cloverdale Station. They will perform at 10 a.m., the same time the station opens, and Aubert said all are welcome to come down and enjoy the music, even if they are not riding the rails.

“This has become a tradition at the start of the season,” he noted.

Once again, the rail society will hold its summer music series on their extended rail platform. The Cloverdale Station Summer Music Festival kicks off June 17 and artists are booked throughout July and August on each weekend as part of the musical celebration.

“All performances are booked,” added Aubert. “This experience is open to everyone, free of charge, thanks to a cultural grant from the City of Surrey.”

Aubert said Heritage Rail volunteers are working on plans to celebrate the railway’s 25th anniversary with several legacy projects underway.

The Fraser Valley Heritage Railway Society operates the railway out of the Cloverdale Heritage Railway Campus, which includes Cloverdale Station and the Restoration Car Barn, at Highway 10 and 176A Street, in Surrey.
