One man suffered serious injuries after a shooting in Toronto’s downtown core on Monday morning, Toronto police say.

It happened near Bleecker and Wellesley streets at around 2:45 a.m.

Police said officers were flagged down by an injured person and a male victim in his 20s was rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

In a post on social media, Toronto police said it was “initially unclear show the victim was injured,” but it was later determined that he was shot.

The suspect fled prior to the arrival of officers, police added.

Investigators were not able to provide a suspect description.

There is currently a large police presence in the area and the investigation is ongoing.
