The Dustin Pratt Memorial Golf Tournament is set to celebrate a major milestone this year, as the event returns for its 10th year of bringing the community together in support of a meaningful cause.
Roxane Pratt, Dustin’s mother, shared what makes the annual tournament so special and why it continues to have such a strong impact.
“It’s more than just a golf tournament,” said Pratt. “It’s a day where the community comes together to celebrate Dustin’s life and support a great cause. You see friends, family, and even people who’ve never met Dustin all coming together to give back.”
Over the years, the tournament has grown into a highly anticipated event, known for its welcoming and fun atmosphere.
“It’s just a really fun, easygoing day. The tournament’s pretty relaxed, lots of laughs, a bit of friendly competition and you’ll definitely see a lot of plaid and camo.”
This year’s event will also feature some exciting additions, including a $10,000 hole-in-one prize and food and drink stations set up along the course. The day wraps up with a cabaret in the evening.
“Sad Dads from Estevan bring a ton of energy with 2000s music, so it should turn into a pretty great party,” Pratt added.
While the golf tournament remains the fund’s biggest fundraiser, it also helps support another important initiative the Dustin Pratt Memorial Fund scholarship.
Now in its second year, the scholarship is aimed at supporting students pursuing careers in the trades, while recognizing those who reflect Dustin’s character.
“We’re really looking for students who reflect who Dustin was kind, genuine, and someone who makes a positive impact on others,” said Pratt. “It’s not just about grades, but character, community involvement, and being someone people can count on.”
Although still in its early stages, the scholarship is already helping local students move forward.
“This is only our second year, we’ve awarded two so far,” she explained. “Both recipients are pursuing careers in the trades, which is exactly what we hoped for. It’s about helping remove some of the financial barriers and giving them that extra push.”
Beyond attending the tournament, Pratt says there are other simple but important ways the community can support the fund.
“Even just spreading the word for us, following our social media, sharing our posts that brings awareness,” she said. “It shows people what kind of impact we’ve had.”
The Dustin Pratt Memorial Fund was created as a way to honour Dustin’s memory and turn loss into something positive for the community.
“It really came from wanting to honour Dustin and keep his memory alive in a positive way,” said Pratt. “Today, it means everything. It’s a way for us and the whole community to stay connected to him while making a real impact.”
As the tournament celebrates its 10th year, it continues to be a powerful example of community connection, remembrance, and giving back.
