Frankie Muniz crashes NASCAR truck as new show premieres

Television star and NASCAR racer Frankie Muniz crashed out during a truck race hours after the revival of his show Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair, the Hollywood Reporter said.

Muniz was racing at the Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee when he crashed his Malcolm in the Middle-themed Ford F-150 in a wreck with Tyler Reif and Timmy Hill. The crash took him out of the race, but no serious injuries were reported.

Before the crash, Muniz said he was feeling pretty confident about the race.

“I actually thought we were running pretty good. I felt pretty quick,” he told Fox Sports. “We were in the lucky dog position, so I was just trying to do some good lap times. I think there was like 10 to go on the stage.

“I think (Reif) maybe got impatient, I don’t know. He was yelling at me in there, saying I’m a lapper, like I shouldn’t be racing. I’m in the lucky dog position. I’m fighting. I belong on that racetrack just as much as he does, just as much as the leaders do. I’m not going to back down on that. I haven’t seen a replay, but based on what I felt, I went to the middle of the track. I didn’t track all the way out to show that I was going to go back to the bottom.”

He said the crash might have been a useful way to promote the show.

“Hopefully it got TV time,” he said. “Hopefully people are going to watch the Malcolm in the Middle reboot right after this race.”

Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair debuted on Hulu and Disney+ on Friday night. The original series ran from 2000 to 2006 on Fox, and starred Muniz alongside Bryan Cranston before he went on to his career-defining role as teacher-turned-drug kingpin Walter White in the Emmy-winning series Breaking Bad. The new series follows Malcolm, who grew up as a genius middle child in a dysfunctional, socially awkward family, as an adult with a  girlfriend and a daughter. He’s distanced himself from his family but must return home for his parents 40th wedding anniversary.
