Travellers on a departing flight out of Vancouver International Airport were delayed Saturday as police had to deal with allegedly “unruly” passengers.

Richmond RCMP were called to YVR around 7:30 a.m. on April 11 for a report of disruptive behaviour aboard a departing commercial flight, which led to safety concerns and resulted in the flight being delayed, according to a news release Tuesday (April 14).

Police said the passengers were allegedly not complying with flight crew instructions.

Richmond RCMP at the airport worked with airline staff to safely de-escalate the situation, which resulted in deplaning passengers. There were no injuries reported.

Ten people were arrested and later released on undertakings. They are scheduled to appear in provincial court in Richmond.

Police are recommending charges to the Crown for failing to comply with flight crew instructions under the Aeronautics Act and mischief under the Criminal Code.
