Article contentWASHROOM BUDGET OVERFLOWING? SHOCKING

In a January letter to the editor, I bemoaned the city staff estimate of $1 million to build a public washroom at Bank and Somerset streets, this for a building a fraction the size of an average bungalow that costs perhaps $800,000.

Now we are informed this project is on hold. Why? To the non-surprise of any Ottawan, the cost has risen to $1,400,000, an increase of 40 per cent!

This raises some obvious questions: Between staff and city council, what is going on? Who is in charge? Is there any sense of fiscal responsibility in this city? And what the heck are they building, a replica Taj Mahal or Buckingham Palace out of gold bricks?

When will council rein in this fiscal insanity and order the plans be revised to produce a reasonable washroom at a reasonable price, instead of a Lamborghini-priced model?

Like the LRT fiasco, little wonder the city is in such a financial mess. No worries, we’ll just have property taxes jacked up some more to cover this outrageous expense.

GLADU SHOULD FIT IN

Re: MP Marilyn Gladu becomes latest Tory to join Liberals, online, April 8

Is it really any wonder that people have become so cynical about politicians? When the person they voted for, who was elected under the premise to support the values of the party they represent, can just say, “I have changed my mind, too bad, so sad, and there is nothing you, the voter, can do about it … na na na na boo boo.”

Well, Marilyn Gladu should fit right in with the rest of the Liberals who are willing to sell the country out to China.

This is how people like Donald Trump get in, when so many feel that their voice goes unheard by the elites who run the country.

THIS ISN’T WORKING

After another MP crosses the floor, it is obvious that our democratic system is a joke. The voters are ignored again. Our system of governance is broken. It is time to fix it or it is time to break up this country of Canada because it just doesn’t work anymore.
