A fight between two men over a cellphone led to a reported stabbing early Friday morning on the platform at Malton GO station in Mississauga’s north end near Toronto Pearson Airport, police said.
Peel Regional Police told INsauga.com the two men, described as being homeless, became involved in an altercation that led to one man cutting the other with an “edged weapon.”
The injured man sustained “superficial wounds” that are not life-threatening, police said, adding the other man fled the area.
A police spokesperson told INsauga.com a suspect has not yet been apprehended, but added the wanted man is an acquaintance of the victim.
Earlier on Friday, police described the violent altercation as an “isolated incident” and added there was no threat to the public.
Peel Paramedics told INsauga.com earlier that the incident, which was initially reported as a stabbing, occurred at around 8 a.m. in the vicinity of the GO station. They said the victim was taken to a trauma centre in serious condition.
The GO station is located on Derry Road East, just east of Airport Road and steps north of Canada’s biggest and busiest airport.
A police presence remained in the area throughout Friday morning.
