SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) – An internal audit report for the City of Shreveport released April 17 shows pension payments for dozens of retirees were posted to the wrong account.
The report reviews all pension payments posted between September of 2017 and December of 2025. During that time, the report notes that pension payments for 34 city (police, fire, etc.) retirees were actually posted to the wrong account. The individual errors ranged from $595 to $82,353.
The audit report notes a total of $1,296,745 incorrect payments.
The report recommends reconfiguring the city’s HR system to avoid this sort of mistake in the future; an independent review is also called for in the document.
According to the report, the misrouted funds should be corrected and posted to the proper accounts. Staff retraining is also recommended.

City officials say these errors predate the current HR team, and that new training has been implemented. Ongoing monitoring to avoid this in the future is also taking place. It’s expected to take six to 12 months to complete this.
