Every week, Oprah sets an intention exclusively for Oprah Daily Insiders, with reflections on topics like letting go, forgiveness, coming into your own, and more.
Happy Sunday!
I have a feeling you Insiders have been as powerfully moved by the Artemis II crew as I have. What struck me most is this: They went all the way to the edge of the Moon…and what they discovered wasn’t out there.
It was us.
From that distance, the noise of life—the striving, the proving, the separating—were all gone. There are no titles in space. No divisions. Just our glowing, beautiful Earth suspended in blackness.
Astronaut Christina Koch described Earth not as a planet but as something far more intimate: She called it a lifeboat in the vast darkness of space.
I loved how all four astronauts were in awe of there being no borders, making it clear that everything we fight over exists on a thin layer of blue. And that layer is all we have.
Suddenly, all the everyday stuff that consumes us and feels so urgent reveals itself for what it is: temporary and often trivial. What we really have is what has always mattered: how we care for one another; how we tend to our fragile, often confused and chaotic home; and how we choose to show up while we’re here.
And what about those glorious photos of our Earth home? Did you imagine yourself on your little plot as I did? But the astronauts didn’t just return with images of the Moon. They came back with a deeper knowing. That we belong to each other, and we are responsible for what we’ve been given.
All week, I found myself moving through my day as if seeing Earth from afar, and letting that perspective soften what doesn’t matter and sharpen what does.
I’m wondering, Insiders: If you could see your life from that distance, what would you choose to hold closer, and what would you finally let go?
