Singer, actor and film producer Diljit Dosanjh made Vancouver history in 2024 when he became the first Indian artist to sell out B.C. Place. Billboard reported that The Dil-Luminati Tour stop was the largest Punjabi music concert outside of India. The Aura Tour also set Live Nation’s record for presale tickets by a South Asian artist.
The year before, Dosanjh had been the first Indian-born act to play at the trendsetting Coachella Music Festival and sold out Rogers Arena in Vancouver on his subsequent North American tour.
Now, the 42 year-old is aiming to add to that impressive list of achievements when the Aura World Tour hits Vancouver on Thursday. The tour has already broken records in both Australia and New Zealand, drawing in more than 90,000 fans. Reviews note the lavish stage and lighting design of the set.
It’s a sign of the global explosion of Punjabi pop on the world stage that Dosanjh is able to return to B.C.’s biggest live entertainment venue. Since his last appearance here, the Junos introduced a South Asian music category and local artists such as Karan Aujla have sold out cross-country tours and appeared on such television staples as The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon.
Dosanjh, whose singles such as Proper Patola have racked up almost 400 million streams, has no problems packing audiences into arenas. The singer has also become a go-to collaborator for artists such as Diplo and Sia. The hit single Hass Hass with Sia became a cross-cultural crossover global hit.
