Surrey records 15 extortion-related shootings so far in 2026

An April 13 shooting at a home in Surrey’s Whalley neighbourhood is now considered to be extortion-related, police confirmed Tuesday (April 21).
Surrey Police responded to a call of gunshots in the 9500-block of 127 Street around 2:50 a.m. on April 13. Police found that a home in the area was damaged by gunfire. Fortunately, none of the home’s occupants were injured, SPS said in a release.
SPS Major Crime Section investigators and Integrated Forensic Identification Services officers are assisting with the investigation.
The motive for the shooting was unknown at first, but Surrey Police later confirmed to the Surrey Now-Leader that it was extortion-related.
This is Surrey’s 15th extortion-related shooting this year. There have also been 87 extortion reports, 46 victims, 25 of which are repeat victims, and two extortion-related arson cases.
