A young person is facing several charges involving drugs after an investigation in the downtown core by Ottawa police.
Officials said in a press release, they opened the case with the ByWard Market Central Neighbourhood Resource Team, which was looking into a residence within the area receiving complaints from people about suspected drug activity.
In the investigation, officers found that one of the suspects was wanted on an outstanding warrant in Gatineau for drug possession. As a result, police conducted a traffic stop, leading to the arrest of a youth.
They also seized about 100 grams of suspected fentanyl and money.
The youth is facing offences of:
Possession for the purpose of trafficking
Failure to comply with an undertaking (three counts)
Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000
The case is still open, and officers are continuing the investigation, the release notes.
Police have been receiving several tips of drug trafficking across the city, including a bust that led to weapons being seized.
Earlier this month, officers searched the 800 block of Walkley Road in Riverside Park South and the 100 block of Silvermoon Crescent in Avalon. They took two people into custody who were charged with several drug and weapon offences.
This came after several reports from the public of a man believed to be trafficking substances.
