A Toronto man faces four robbery charges in connection with a string of bank heists in Mississauga and elsewhere in the Greater Toronto Area.
York Regional Police holdup squad detectives said they made an arrest on Thursday after executing a search warrant at a Toronto home.
Police said they’ve linked a man to four bank robberies in Mississauga, Toronto and Markham.
In the Markham incident, a man entered a bank in the area of Highway 7 and Birchmount Road on March 9 shortly after 11:30 a.m. Police said the culprit handed a teller a note demanding money and indicating that it was a robbery.
He then fled the scene on foot empty-handed, police added.
Investigators didn’t provide any details on the other three bank robberies.
Muhammad Adbullah Anwar, 26, of Toronto, is charged with:
Robbery — four counts
Disguise with intent — four counts
Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
Fail to comply with judicial release order — two counts
Operation while prohibited
Driving while under suspension
At the time of the Markham bank robbery, the accused was on release orders for unrelated offences, police said.
The investigation continues.
