Zipp expands its catalog with the new 202 NSW, a model developed to perform at its best on the most demanding mountain terrains without sacrificing efficiency on the rest of the course. This launch is positioned in the highest segment of the brand and concentrates much of its development on the reduction of weight without compromising stiffness or aerodynamics.
One of the most relevant data points is the declared weight of 1,090 grams for the complete set, including valves and rim tape. This not only confirms that it is the lightest road wheelset Zipp has ever produced, but it also represents a significant leap compared to the previous generation, which weighed around 1,460 grams. The reduction of more than 350 grams marks a clear difference in terms of rotational mass, especially in prolonged climbing scenarios.
Although its natural terrain is the climbs, the design is not limited to climbing fast. The 35 mm rim profile introduces an aerodynamic component that allows for maintaining speed in sections prior to the climb and, above all, provides stability in descents. This is an important point because many ultralight wheels penalize in this aspect, something that has been attempted to balance here.
The rim design, with 23 mm internal width, is optimized for tires between 28 and 32 mm, aligning with the current standard of high-performance road cycling. Additionally, the Tubeless Straight Side system sets a maximum pressure limit of 5.0 bars, although this value depends on the width of the tire used.
Structurally, Zipp maintains a system weight limit of 115 kg, a relatively high figure for such a lightweight set that reinforces its focus as a wheel usable in real competition and not just in extreme configurations.
The set is completed with the ZR1 SL hubs, developed with German engineering, which incorporate GRW ceramic bearings with high corrosion resistance and a 66-point engagement system. This design aims to maximize power transfer and provide an immediate response when force is applied to the pedals.
Regarding the build, Zipp uses Alpina Hyperlite spokes in a 20-hole configuration and crossed pattern, prioritizing the balance between lightness, stiffness, and durability.

The brand acknowledges that it has evaluated the use of carbon spokes, but believes that with steel it can achieve weight goals without assuming certain limitations of the material. This explains why the set maintains a more traditional architecture with J-bend spokes and standard hubs, something uncommon in this weight range.
