Jacob Fatu still wants Roman Reigns at WWE Backlash. In fact, there might not be anything he’s wanted more in his career. On WWE SmackDown, Fatu put the entire family tree on notice.

Roman Reigns previously told Fatu to reconsider challenging him. After Friday’s events, Reigns might want to reconsider if he wants to get into the ring with this version of “The Samoan Werewolf.” Fatu singlehandedly tore through The MFTs while also delivering a stern warning to The Usos.

This week’s show also featured all of SmackDown’s champions. Undisputed WWE champion Cody Rhodes laid out an open challenge, while WWE women’s champion Rhea Ripley and WWE women’s tag team champions Brie Bella & Paige made new enemies. The WWE tag team titles and women’s United States title were defended, and Trick Williams tried to celebrate his new title reign.

Fatu chops down the Anoa’i tree

On Raw, Fatu challenged world heavyweight champion Reigns. Reigns told his cousin to contemplate whether he really wanted to go down this road. Fast-forward to Friday, and Fatu was undeterred. He’s tired of being told what his limits are, and there’s no bigger test in the WWE than his cousin Reigns.

The Usos had conflicting thoughts on the matter. Jimmy Uso tried to persuade Fatu towards the undisputed WWE champion, Cody Rhodes. Jey Uso — himself no stranger to feuding with Reigns — had advice for Fatu: to bring everything he has because Reigns won’t take it easy on him.

More Anoa’i members arrived for the family reunion, but they weren’t welcomed warmly. Solo Sikoa and his MFTs crashed the party. Sikoa took credit for Fatu’s success and claimed he’d need backup against Reigns. Tama Tonga tried to talk trash but ate a swift superkick for his efforts, setting up the main event later in the night.

Jacob Fatu def. Solo Sikoa via pinfall after hitting him consecutively with a superkick, pop-up Samoan drop and Mighty Moonsault. Post-match, The MFTs tried to attack Fatu with steel chairs, paying a heavy toll. The Usos made their way to the ring, but stayed on the apron as Fatu overpowered them, crushing their heads between his hip attacks and chairs wedged in the corners. Still enraged, Fatu put Tonga Loa through the commentary table. Fatu then got in the Usos’ faces, telling them that he’d see them and Reigns on Monday.

WWE is wasting no time establishing Fatu as a legitimate threat ahead of Backlash. I’m normally not a fan of feeding an entire faction to one superstar, but this was effective. “The Samoan Werewolf” has looked like more of a berserker than he has in months. His aura is restored. That’s important with so little time to build towards a major program with Reigns. Grade: B+
