Former Okotoks Oilers forward Rieger Lorenz has signed a two-year entry-level contract with the Minnesota Wild following a national championship run in the NCAA.
After wrapping up his senior year with the University of Denver Pioneers, not only did Lorenz capture of his second national title; but he also inked a deal to start his professional playing career in the NHL.
Since signing with the wild, Lorenz has already played in three games with the team’s AHL affiliate, the Iowa Wild, making his debut on Wednesday, April 15.
Prior to playing in Denver and now Iowa, Lorenz spent part of his development as an Oiler. He first debuted during the 2018-2019 season before joining the team full time in 2020-2021. He went on to dominate as an Oiler in 2021-2022, capturing 85 points on the season, the third highest in franchise history. He went on to play for the University of Denver in the 2022-2023 season where he has remained until now.
Coming in at 6-foot-3, 211 lbs., the 22-year-old winger has the chance to become a full time NHL alongside the likes of several former Oilers including Jacob Bernard-Docker, Dylan Holloway, and Corban Knight.
