What should bus routes look like in Campbell Heights?

Campbell Heights has always had problems with transit, notes Scott Wheatley.
Now Translink has launched a new survey to explore ways to improve transit to that area.
Wheatley, the executive director for the Cloverdale District Chamber of commerce, is currently highlighting the survey because he said the transit issue there has massive implications, including hindering the creation of more jobs.
“Campbell Heights has the same problems they’ve always had,” he said. “There is a lack of service there, especially 24 hours service, and there are businesses down there that want to run three shifts. But to do that, they need a higher volume of transit for a longer period of time.”
The Cloverdale Chamber’s area covers most of East Surrey, including Campbell Heights, and Wheatley said many of his members there are strong advocates for improving transit to the booming area.
He added it’s imperative that people have their voices heard now as transit to Campbell Heights is on the cusp of change.
Translink is asking for feedback about the challenges both riders and business currently face.
Wheatley said continuing saga of having to go to Langley or White Rock in order to get to Campbell Heights always disheartens people. There are no direct north-south buses currently to or from area from Cloverdale or Clayton. One can only get to Campbell Heights on transit via White Rock or Langley.
Wheatley is hoping once the SkyTrain is in that Translink will run buses straight down from the SkyTrain line, perhaps down 184th or 192nd.
He said there will definitely be an increase in need for transit to the hospital too. So, that is something else that will be factored in.
“Building SkyTrain will free up about a hundred buses,” he added. “That’s a significant number of buses. So Translink will have more flexibility to increase routes and we definitely want and need more north-south buses.”
