Hazmat team called out to house in Surrey

The Surrey Fire Department hazmat team was called out to a house in Port Kells April 26.

The 8800-block of 192nd Street was closed for several hours starting on Sunday morning at about 11:30 a.m. and running into the afternoon.

A local Facebook group—Port Kells Community of Family and Friends—reported the home’s occupant and dog were found deceased.

“It appears the request came from (Surrey Police Service) who conducted a wellness check on the home,” a Black Press Media freelancer reported. “The fire department hazmat team was called into investigate an [unknown] hazardous condition.”

Two of the fire departments hazmat trucks attended the call. Firefighters were suited up in full hazmat gear before entering the home.

According to the black press media freelancer, “They went through the full decontamination procedure after exiting the home.”
