Surrey council has approved a $9,091,325.60 contract for Ventana Construction Corporation for design and preconstruction services related to the Newton Community Centre.
The spending limit will be set at $10,100,000.
“Staff will explore opportunities with Ventana to advance design work and move the project forward as quickly as feasibly possible,” city manager Rob Constanzo indicates in a corporate report that came before council on Monday, April 27. The centre is expected to be ready for use in the Spring of 2030.
The Newton Community Centre, Costanzo notes, will be a “comprehensive community hub offering inclusive recreational, cultural, and educational amenities for residents of all ages.”
It will feature a 50-metre lap pool, a leisure pool, a hot tub and sauna, a library branch, two gymnasiums, a fitness centre and a mat room, as well as multi-purpose rooms, childcare and arts areas.
