A three-day book market held over the weekend to raise funds for sick children has set a new record.
More than $406,000 raised
The Children’s Hospital Book Market hosted the event at St. Vital Centre, raising over $406,000 over the weekend.
“Thank you to our dedicated supporters, sponsors, and volunteers for making this the most successful Book Market yet!” said the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba in a post on social media. “None of this would be possible without your support.”
The funds raised will help fund Child Life programming at Winnipeg’s Children’s Hospital, bringing comfort to sick and injured kids and their families
Child Life programming provides comfort and support to children and their families during extended hospital stays. It includes music therapy, the library program, CHTV (the hospital’s closed-circuit television station for kids) and a playroom with toys, games, crafts and a mini hospital where children can play out their experiences with treatments and procedures.
Wide selection of books draws crowds
The three-day evening featured a huge selection of books from over 80 categories, including a fantastic collection of kids’ vintage books. This sale also included a new category in the kids’ area, $1 comic books, and a new book genre, cozy mysteries.
“Your continued support and generosity have helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars over the years for children and families who rely on Manitoba’s only children’s hospital, and we’re so grateful,” said the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba. “We couldn’t do this without people like you.”
Looking ahead to Teddy Bears’ Picnic
The Children’s Hospital Foundation is now preparing for the 37th annual Teddy Bears’ Picnic, which will take place on Sept. 27, 2026.
