A Brampton man faces charges after mall security was threatened with a knife in a Pickering mall.
Emergency crews responded to a robbery call in the Shoppers Drug Mart located inside The Shops at Pickering City Centre, at 1355 Kingston Rd. on Friday, April 24, at approximately 12:25 p.m., Durham Regional Police said.
A man entered the store and concealed several items in a bag, police said. When staff members confronted the man, he fled the store.
Police said mall security then attempted to follow the man and he threatened them with a large knife.
A short time later, officers found a man and took him into custody without incident, police said.
Jarmanjit Singh, 28, from Brampton, is charged with possessing a dangerous weapon, two counts of theft under $5,000, two counts of possessing property obtained by crime under $5,000 and breach of probation.
He was held for a bail hearing.
