A 70-year-old York Region man was charged on Tuesday with first-degree murder in yesterday morning’s shooting death of a man who was killed inside a security services business in Mississauga’s east end.

A Peel Regional Police spokesperson told INsauga.com Howard Brodsky, 70, appeared in Brampton court on Tuesday where the murder charge was officially revealed. He remains in police custody.

Brodsky was arrested on Monday after Peel police say a man had called authorities to report himself in connection with the slaying earlier in the day.

In what they’re describing as a “targeted shooting,” police said a 62-year-old man was shot multiple times inside a security services business — reportedly Spy Depot Security — in the Kennedy Road/Matheson Boulvevard area, a couple of blocks west of Highway 403 and south of Highway 401.

The police spokesperson didn’t reveal the victim’s name, but said the man’s identity may be released later today.

A person inside the building found the fallen man and called police at around 8:30 a.m. on Monday.

Police said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene despite life-saving efforts administered by first responders that included Mississauga firefighters and Peel paramedics.

Speaking to media at the scene early Monday afternoon, police said a man in his 70s had been arrested and that investigators recovered a gun. Police didn’t say if the suspect and victim were known to one another, noting the homicide investigation was in its early stages at the time.

Police also haven’t revealed what may have led to the shooting, whether a business relationship gone bad or something other than that.

Investigators are asking for the public’s help as their probe continues. Anyone with relevant information or dash cam footage is asked to call police at 905-453-3311 or Peel Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.

Police said they are canvassing the commercial area in search of video surveillance footage that might aid in the investigation.
