The Jays have moved Trey Yesavage to the Buffalo Bisons, according to Keegan Matheson. Yesavage has pitched at Dunedin (7 starts, 2.43 ERA), Vancouver (4 starts, 1.56 ERA), and New Hampshire (8 games, 7 starts, 4.50 ERA). In 80.2 innings, he’s had 30 walks and 134 strikeouts.
Trey was #5 on our prospect list before the season. Tom wrote:
His fastball sat mostly 93-95 last year, touching 97mph, and in a shorter outing at the Jays’ spring breakout game was consistently around 96mph. It has plus carry that pairs well with his release point and average run. His main breaking ball is an 89mph slider with above average glove side break. The best pitch in the arsenal might be his splitter, which gets really good depth. He can also mix in a downer curve, but it’s more of a show-me fourth pitch.
“Safe” is a dirty word when applied to college pitchers, at least among Jays fans who remember Deck McGuire and T.J. Zeuch. While it could apply to Yesavage, he has upside those pitchers lacked due to the quality of his stuff. The combination of command and three above average pitches that can shade towards plus makes him the prototype #3 starter prospect. He should move quickly through the system, and might reach Buffalo this year and factor into the 2026 rotation plan.
The Jays could call him up to pitch out of the pen for the last month of the season. With his stuff, he could be very useful pitching an inning or two of relief a go.
