Mariner Independent, the Overland Park, Kan.-based registered investment advisor with an over $40 billion independent channel, has onboarded its largest team yet to the platform.
Three advisors—John Buckingham, Jason Clark and Christopher Quigley—have launched Mosaic Value Partners, a $1.3 billion RIA based in Aliso Viejo, Calif., with Mariner Independent. The team began operations on April 24 with the support of three additional team members.
The trio of founders had been with Focus Financial Partners’ Kovitz Investment Group Partners since 2018, according to BrokerCheck. Kovitz joined and took on the Focus Partners Wealth brand earlier this year.
The advisors said in a statement that they are launching Mosaic Value to operate independently while also expanding client services with advanced planning, estate and tax strategies, and insurance solutions, among others.
“We serve our clients through a research-backed, value-oriented investment philosophy and have built strong, personal relationships along the way,” Buckingham said in a statement. “As we considered our next phase of growth, it was important to find a partner that could support that foundation while giving us the resources to expand and evolve.”
The team will also relaunch an investment research report they previously produced called Value Investor Perspectives. That publication had “tens of thousands of subscribers through a mix of weekly commentaries, monthly market updates and long-form investment research insights,” the firm said.
The move shows Mariner remains active in the independent advisor space after it announced earlier this month that it was selling an LPL Financial-affiliated advisor network with $31 billion in assets to LPL. Under that agreement, an LPL office of supervisory jurisdiction, Private Advisor Group, will bring on 144 advisors in its hybrid RIA, while 223 will maintain direct affiliation with LPL, according to the firms.
Mariner Independent is led by Rob Sandrew, who took the role in June 2025, after leaving a position as chief growth officer at Integrated Partners. The division had more than 1,100 advisors and about $40 billion in client assets when he took over. Mariner did not immediately respond to a request for updated figures.
