Solicitors warned by the legal services watchdog not to charge fees for release of wills

The legal services watchdog has criticised the practice of solicitors charging hundreds of euros for the release of wills stored on their premises.

The Legal Services Regulatory Authority (LSRA) said that under no circumstances should the handing over of a will be made conditional on the payment of a so-called “storage fee”.

The issue is one of several relating to wills and probate matters identified in a new complaints handling report by the LSRA.
